Everybody hears about Mercury retrograde and occasionally Saturn or Jupiter retrograde, but those planets retro every year so the effect is a bit commonplace. However, two of our planets do not. Venus only goes retrograde every 1.5 years while Mars goes retro every 2 years. Those are the ones that we might want to consider paying attention to since the effects are a little less common. This month you can do just that. Venus has been direct since April 12, 2025, but on October 3, it goes retrograde. Venus, our most evolved, refined and elegant planet presents a little different façade as a retrograde. In esoteric astrology she is about education and communication, conflict for the purpose of finding harmony, and she represents our Path, the path we consciously choose in order to evolve spiritually. She is an active and reflective planet which, when retrograde can become less lustrous, less polished and sometimes more petty rather than delicate, more dissonant than harmonious and more illiterate than educated.
This month, as Venus puts on a new dress called Scorpio, some of the changes may be felt more strongly than if she were in other attire. Scorpio can be a strongly feeling and passionately reactive sign. She was well into it at the start of the month and the retrograde means that she will stay in it longer than usual as she dances forward and backward through the sign all month. Since many associate Venus with love and beauty and since Scorpio rules sexuality and passion, one can connect the dots that this could be a time of relationship issues OR a rising to new heights of what one’s relationship could be. Unexpected twists and turns in communication and little things that annoy in greater ways than they should . . . all are possibilities.
But as always we want to remember that ALL retrogrades are about more and differing opportunities from the rules and regulations of direct travel. Scorpio’s lessons are learning to control the passions, not let the passions control the personality and this time in Venus could offer ample opportunity to grow through those lessons. The scintillating reflection Venus is about could be turned to inner reflection, shining the light on what needs to change within us, which closed doors could be opened and which words might need to be curbed. Retrogrades are always opportunities which don’t necessarily exist when the planets travel in direct motion. A time for the growth into the phoenix which Scorpio aspires to.
