LUNAR ECLIPSE

           On May 16 our full Moon will include a complete lunar eclipse. Full moons are always a time for bringing plans to fruition while eclipses are opportunities for change. This particular full moon/eclipse is also a test. While the Sun is in the sign of Taurus, both the Earth and the conjunct Moon are in the sign of Scorpio. Like most opposites these 2 signs rule very similar things. Taurus rules money while Scorpio rules other people’s money. Taurus rules energy such as gasoline, muscular and financial energy while Scorpio rules the energy that gets things done. Taurus rules gripping and squeezing while Scorpio rules blocking and obstructing. And on and on; you get the point. So it goes with all oppositions but these qualities come out more during full moon. Certainly, we can see where these issues of energy and money, obstructing and squeezing are already occurring in our world today. The eclipse may bring this to a head and/or it could show us the change that needs to occur.

          When a lunar eclipse occurs, the full moon passes through the Earth’s shadow. The reflection of the Sun, which is what gives the Moon its light, can no longer occur. Gradually the moon gets darker and then it will take on a rusty, blood red color, the color of Scorpio. While Scorpio sometimes gets a bad rap, it is also the sign of rebirth after being tested by going through the fire, while the Earth itself is the planet of transformation. In esoteric astrology the Moon is more about service to humanity and less about emotional reactions. Perhaps we can use this powerful energy of the eclipse to join together in resolving to come out of the global conflicts like the phoenix rising from the fire, immortal and with tears that can heal.
